Purim and Passover - Two Important Jewish Holidays

Later winter and early Spring brings 2 important Jewish Holidays, Purim and Passover. Both celebrate freedom and the power of good over evil.First up is Purim, which is on March 8, 2012. Purim is a time to let loose and have fun. It is a festive holiday when we celebrate Queen Esther's saving of the Jews from the evil grip of Haman. Purim is considered a Jewish "Mardi Gras" and is celebrated by parties, dancing and the sharing of food gifts called Shalach Manot or Purim Gift Baskets. In celebration of this joyous occasion, it is customary to share gifts of food and drink with friends, family and those that are less fortunate. Hamentashen, the 3 cornered cookie is the most important food item at Purim as it symbolizes the 3 cornered hat worn by the evil haman.
