Do you long for authentic rugelach, black and white cookies or other traditional Jewish baked goods? Are you stumped about where to find delicious pastries for the Oneg Shabbat that you plan for your daughter's bat mitzvah? Do you need to send a kosher shiva tray to a relative who lives five states away?
Jane Moritz has the answer. The former ad agency executive owns The Challah Connection, a Westport, Conn.-based business that delivers premium-quality kosher baked goods to all 50 states and abroad.
When Moritz bought the company three years ago, it specialized in home challah delivery by subscription. She soon expanded the product line, seeking out the best products from kosher bakeries in the New York metropolitan area and selling them nationwide through www.chall ahconnection.com.
Challah Connection offers an array of tins, baskets and platters featuring old favorites such as rainbow cookies, Russian coffee cake and chocolate babka that make wonderful gifts for holidays and special occasions. The three-pound "classics" platter ($64.99 plus S&H), featuring mini black and whites and mixed rugelach to feed 14 to 16 people, is a best seller for Rosh Hashanah. Among the new items for this year is the "Honeypot and Friends" crate which includes apple and honey rugelach, dried fruits, a honey pot, a jar of honey, honey- toasted sunflower seeds and beeswax candles ($150).
Moritz also helps take the anxiety out of planning bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings and other occasions by providing delicious fresh kosher baked goods for a few or a few hundred, delivered right to the event, ready to serve. Many synagogues have a standing weekly order.
The company still offers its original weekly challah subscription service locally in the Westport area but has expanded it to include the entire country. Choose from plain, poppy seed, sesame seed, raisin, pull- apart or whole wheat. Ceremonial challahs are also available.
Visit Challah Connection online or call 866-CHALLAH (242-5524). Place Rosh Hashanah (and all holiday) orders at least a week in advance to ensure on-time delivery.
