What is Shavuot?

Shavuot is a two day holiday that begins at sundown on May 18. It is also called the "Festival of Weeks" and is an important holiday because it commemorates:

1) The day that the Torah was given to the Israelites on Mount Sinai
2) The reaping of the spring harvest

Why is Shavuot also called the "Festival Of Weeks?"

Superstrawberry CheesecakeWe count the 7 week period beginning at Passover and ending at Shavuot. According to Jewish folklore, the Israelites were told that they would receive the Torah 50 days after the exodus from Egypt. With great anticipation for the Torah, they counted each and every day.

How to Celebrate Shavuot
Shavuot is a holiday that is celebrated by lighting candles at sundown on May 18 and eating a meal of dairy delicacies. Our favorite dairy dishes are noodle pudding, cheese blintzes, cheese or vegetarian lasagna and of course Cheesecake!
